Clothes line comfort

My neice posted a photo on her Facebook page this morning of a woman hanging clothes on her clotherline, circa 1950s.  My neice asked 'who had a clothes line like this?'  I replied with a photo I took of the clothes line I strung in my back yard this past September when my dryer quit working.

I commented that I really enjoyed hanging our clothes out on the clothes line.  I remember helping my Mom hang the clothes in the mid 60s, although probably not as enthusiastically as I did in September and not on coat-hangers.  The comforting feeling I got while performing this chore was no doubt from the memory of helping my Mom, but the thing that surprised me was that it seemed completely normal to look out my kitchen window and see clothes hanging on a clothes line.  I was a wee bit disappointed when we got the dryer working again.
